Wow, what a crappy year for nearly every human on the planet. The pandemic. Relentless storms of every shape and size. An unfathomable loss of life. Economic devastation that has yet to be truly measured. Not to mention a level of emotional distress that will be felt for years (or decades) to come.

With everything we’ve collectively experienced, the last thing your inbox needs is another “best of” or “top 20” list prognosticating a future that is incredibly uncertain. So, we decided to turn to two sources that are just as reliable as your favorite industry pundit — my 6-year-old son and his Magic 8 Ball.

The history of the Magic 8 Ball is a fascinating read involving a clairvoyant’s son, something called the Psycho-Slate, and a patent for the “Liquid-Filled Dice Agitator”. The history of my son is for another time, but suffice it to say that he’s keeping us on our toes here at IA HQ.

Click here to access the video to view the future (according to my son)! And to you and yours, be kind to one another, stay safe and healthy, contact me if I can help you, and have a very Happy New Year.

With warm regards and thanks,

Where You Can Find Us

With an eye towards a New Year that will begin with virtual gatherings, we are pleased to continue to participate in a number of virtual events and publications, including:

  • January 26, 2021: Mark Stelzner will participate in a webinar sponsored by Businessolver that challenges organizations to ensure any selection process keeps the focus on their needs, and not the provider’s.
  • Early 2021: Mark Stelzner and Mary Faulkner join The Recruitment Flex podcast crew to talk about all things talent and recruiting related. Keep an eye out for the release of the recording!
  • March 8-12, 2021: As a panelist for Hacking HR’s 2021 Global Conference, Mark will weigh in on what’s on the horizon for the evolution of HR and the future of work.

On Our Radar

With the New Year upon us, naturally the team at IA has been keeping an eye out for articles that may help the working world navigate our ever-changing world of work. Here are a few that caught our eye:

  • Now that a vaccine has been announced, many organizations are starting to plan for a return to the office, but this time with a twist.  Flexibility and balance are driving some to advocate for a true hybrid remote/in-person schedule, as explained by Harvard Business Review.
  • As workers reflect on the impact of some percentage of the workforce being remote this past year, the realization is growing that we might be missing something. In this article from Fast Company, Gina McCarthy explores the importance of chit-chat and side conversations in a successful organization.
  • And finally, an understandable take on virtual conferences and the longing for some in-person networking, from Recruiting Daily
