Every year around this time, people begin to list all the things that make them grateful. When the posts come out, you can almost hear the eyerolls as some readers dismiss yet another perfunctory Thanksgiving post. But when someone honestly and openly shares their gratitude, I embrace it. It was a tradition in my family for each person, including those of us relegated to the kiddie table, to share what they were thankful for. The practice kept us grounded, a reminder that no matter what is happening in our very different lives, there is always something we can agree on.

In that spirit, some of our IA-ers wanted to share their gratitude, and the list inspires me as we wind down 2022 and look toward the future:

I am thankful for the health of family, friends, coworkers, and my fur kids. Super grateful that I get to do a job I love and have the resources and time to do things I love with family and friends.

I am thankful for my family. Family means different things to different people; family of origin, extended family, friends who are family and work family. My family consists of all of these people who supported me through the ups and downs and who held me accountable when I couldn’t get out of my own way. My family is my backbone, and I could not have survived 2022 without them. I am very THANKFUL!

In a year of ups and downs, I am incredibly thankful to have both the flexibility and the means to be able to support those closest to me. I know how lucky I am to have the spouse I have, a job I love, and a future to look forward to.

I’m grateful for a work family who continually challenges me and makes me better. I’m grateful for kind and thoughtful neighbors. And I’m grateful to have family healthy and close by.

I’m thankful for the health and welfare of my family – blood or not. I’m thankful for a career where I have the opportunity to help multiple companies operate more efficiently and pragmatically. I’m thankful for the opportunity to live my best life with my best friend – even though we haven’t won the Powerball!

I’m thankful for my family’s health more than anything!

I would echo the sentiments of my amazing IA colleagues and send you and your families all the love and good wishes I can muster. Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving here in the States or are simply doing your best to survive and thrive around the world, we should all take a moment to look up from our laptops and phones, reach out to someone we love, and offer these simple words – Thank you.

With warm regards,

On Our Radar

It’s been a rough few weeks for a lot of workers, between mass layoffs, surprise CEO changes, and rising unemployment rates in many cities. Frankly, it’s kind of depressing. But there are some pockets of hope and joy in the business world, and we aim to share them with you:

  • Pay equity and transparency has been a hot topic for quite some time, with some states even requiring it in job postings. Well, some companies have decided not to wait for legislation and are voluntarily posting salary ranges, as reported by Bloomberg. That should help workers make more informed decisions about their next role.
  • Unfortunately, layoffs are a reality for several workers. It’s rare to come across anyone in the corporate world who hasn’t been at a company that’s been through one. The important thing for leaders to do is to make sure they handle it well, which is exactly what the CEO of Stripe did.
  • This time of year is particularly busy for most teams and leaders are often hard-pressed to rally their people. Luckily, Harvard Business Review shares some specific actions leaders can take to help their teams renew their energy.
